Like Mother, Like Daughter

Everyone I talk to has a different opinion about who Amelia looks like. Yes, she has Danny's eyes, but my eye lashes. I am pretty certain she has my nose, but those lips are her Daddy's. One thing she for sure got from me were those polkies - and oy! - are they cute on her.

This dress was brought back from England by my Aunt Nalsey and has lasted through the years. Amelia is all about the retro look.

Best Cousins

No matter how much screaming is involved sometimes, there is nothing like the love between cousins.

"Dark"

I always knew there would be a time when (1) Amelia would call my name in the morning, instead of just crying, when she wanted to get out of her crib and when (2) Amelia would enjoy cuddling with us in the morning. Here's the reality - I hear "Moooooooooooom" coming from the other room, I look at the clock and usually turn around and go back to sleep - I explain to Amelia that if Mommy doesn't come and get her, it means that she should go back to sleep - anyways...I finally go into her room and Amelia is standing up, holding Hippo and CareBear and calls out one of a number of things, "Dadda", "Bub", or the latest, "dark". We go into our bedroom and get into bed to watch Dora or Blues Clues until Mommy and Dadda can bare to open our eyes. Lately, she wants to take over one of our pillows and tells us, ever so politely, to move. This morning, she was a late riser (6:45am) and Danny and I had to start getting ready right away so Amelia had the bed to herself, something I know she enjoyed.

Choo Choo

Still in our pajamas (it was only 6:30am!), Amelia and I went downstairs to play this morning. With a little help from me, we created a very cute choo choo train with Bunny and Care Bear as fellow passengers.

Giving a New Meaning to "Vacation"

We got back last night from a week-long "vacation". Amelia, Danny and I spent three days in NYC and then met my family in Rhode Island for my cousin, Miriam's, Bat-Mitzvah. We had a really good time throughout the entire trip, as tiring as it was to be so adventurous. We took Amelia on the NYC subway, to Chinatown, in city cabs, on one bus and even on the ferry to Ellis Island. We schleped her and ourselves everywhere we wanted to go and it was great. Anyone with young kids will tell you (unless they bring full time child care) that there will never be such a thing as a relaxing vacation ever again, but for me the whole idea of a vacation has taken on a different meaning. I now enjoy everything a little more now that I get to enjoy it with Amelia. Seeing her point at things and make such great exclamations at everything around her makes it worth the sleepless nights in a cramped hotel room and the long days of getting to and from our destination. For the next few years, maybe we wont call them vacations. Maybe they will just be family trips or, simply, family adventures.
